During D23 last summer in Anaheim, Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman, Bob Chapek confirmed that Marvel themed lands would be added to select theme parks around the globe. Early last week, news broke with even more information and detail. Disneyland Resort, Disneyland Paris, and Disneyland Hong Kong will all be seeing an expanded presence of the Marvel Universe in the park.
Disneyland Resort
Last summer, Disney California Adventure welcomed its first Marvel themed attraction to the park. Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Breakout! opened to the public after its long transformation from previous fan-favorite, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Shortly after opening, it became the highest rated attraction at the Disneyland Resort. But this ride will just be the beginning for the Marvel footprint in the park.
Spider-Man and the Avengers will join the Guardians of the Galaxy as soon as 2020. Although no specific Avengers were
mentioned, the promotional poster clearly depicts Dr. Strange and Black Panther in the background. Both characters would provide guests the opportunity to see characters never before seen inside a theme park attraction. Stay tuned for developments!
These new experiences will be located in the adjacent area currently occupied by “a bug’s land.” It’s Tough to Be a Bug closed permanently on March 19th and the rest of the land is slated to be closed by the end of the summer to make room for these new attractions.
Disneyland Paris
Marvel Summer of Super Heroes comes to Disneyland Paris this summer! From June 10th - September 30th, guests can experience Feel the Power of the Epic Marvel: effects. Then in 2020, guests will be able to join forces with Iron Man and other Avengers in an exciting new retheming of Super Heroes United, where Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, and Black Widow will join forces to take down Thanos in a thrilling new stage show full of cutting-edge projections and special Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at the Walt Disney Studios Park.
Hong Kong Disneyland
Lastly, Marvel expansions are currently underway in Hong Kong Disneyland and will continue with even more Marvel characters and attractions. In 2017, the park welcomed its first Marvel super hero into the fold with the Iron Man Experience. Since its opening, it has quickly become the most popular attraction at the resort. Joining Iron Man with this new expansion will be a brand new attraction themed around fellow Marvel characters, Ant-Man and The Wasp who will have a feature length film together later this summer.
Since the acquisition of Marvel by Disney in 2009, film production has steadily increased and the introduction of favorite heroes from print are starting to have a presence on the big screen. And with the ever-growing popularity of these heroes to a new generation of fans, it
would appear that Disney is starting to move forward and capitalize on that popularity and bring the Marvel Universe to the Disney parks in the near future.
