3 Reasons to Visit The Disneyland Resort This Summer

Of course when I think of the perfect summer vacation, I think of Disney. Summer is one of the BEST times to visit with longer hours, limited time offerings and entertainment. However, this summer has more to offer than ever before! Here are the top 3 reasons to visit The Disneyland Resort this summer!

1. Summer of Heroes

Summer of Heroes is season long celebration through September 10th at Disney California Adventure Park, perfect for the superhero in your family! With so many new additions to mention, let’s start by reviewing the most talked about, albeit, controversial addition: Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout!

This attraction has replaced the formerly popular ride The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. As a Tower of Terror fan, I was unsure if I would enjoy the new addition. To my surprise—I absolutely LOVED it! It is still a drop ride, but more fun, in my opinion. You begin by walking through the Collector’s, well, collection, with different creatures and objects from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are also some special Disney easter eggs to look out for. The big draw to the collection is his most prized and recent possession: The Guardians of the Galaxy. You are then invited to take a tour of the Collector’s office where Rocket interrupts the tour and involves you in his plan to rescue the rest of the Guardians. Once you board your “Gantry Lift”, you join Rocket on a thrilling adventure to breakout the Guardians of the Galaxy! There are six different sequences with different songs, so ride as much as you can to experience them all!

My favorite thing that I experienced was an AWESOME meet and greet with Groot! He was so much fun and spends quite some time with each person. Don’t miss out on meeting him after the “Awesome Dance Party” with Starlord and Gamora! Black Widow also makes a meet and greet appearance as well as helps train future heroes at the Avengers Training Initiative show. If you would like your little hero (ages 6-12) to participate in this show sign up near the Stage 17 building near the Monsters Inc. ride. It is on a first-come basis and fills up quickly!

There are SO MANY new food offerings for Summer of Heroes. Start your day off at Scmoozies for some MARVELous doughnuts or later on for a ‘Friendly Neighborhood’ macaron ice cream sandwich. At Knowhere Eats, ‘The Most Dangerous Tacos in the Galaxy’ were incredibly flavorful and fun (what’s more fun than a vibrant green tortilla?!) and the Space Outpost Tacos were lighter in flavor for those less adventurous. At the Studio Catering Co. truck, The Milano is the perfect drink for a warm, California summer day. This drink is an Orange freeze with blue cream- delicious and photo worthy! Lastly, my FAVORITE offering from Summer of Heroes, is the ‘I am Bread’. It is a loaf of Baby Groot shaped sourdough bread with cheesy jalapenos on top. It’s almost too cute to eat…almost. There are so many other offerings to mention that are special to the Summer of Heroes, but these definitely are not to miss. It is also worth mentioning that Award Wieners has a specially themed Summer of Heroes popcorn bucket and dancing Baby Groot sipper. Baby Groot + merchandise= quickest way to empty my wallet.

2. Food

Yes, I know that I just dedicated an entire paragraph to the food at the Summer of Heroes, but there are some snack and drinks that are perfect for summer elsewhere at The Disneyland Resort. At Disneyland park, one of my favorite places to go is Bengal Barbecue. They have a variety of excellent skewers, but I need to recommend the new tropical slushy drink, ‘The Jungle Julep’ for the perfect refreshing drink on a hot day! Head to the Candy Palace on Main Street U.S.A. for some sweet treats inspired by the floats from the Main Street Electrical Parade. These are definitely here for a limited time, so be sure to grab them while you can. On the secret menu at the Golden Horseshoe are the Ice Cream Nachos. YES. No need to go back to make sure you read that correctly. Waffle ‘chips’ topped with scoops of ice cream and chocolate drizzle, perfect to share with the family! Now I didn’t want to mention the obvious Disney treats like Mickey Premium Bars or corn dogs, but this Summer list can’t go on without mentioning Dole Whips! Of course, you can get the classic treat at The Enchanted Tiki Room, but you can also get DOLE WHIP COTTON CANDY at various locations (and DCA, too!) And, for adults, you can head to the Coffee House at the Disneyland Hotel for a Dole Whip float with Rum! Yum! At Disney California Adventure Park, the best place to spend a Summer day is at the Cove Bar. They have delicious food, drinks for the adults (ask for the Fun Wheel) and THAT VIEW! But, there is a special drink available for all ages: The Cotton Candy Lemonade. The Cotton Candy Lemonade is what it sounds like but topped with a mound of cotton candy on the straw! So refreshing and fun!

3. Nighttime Entertainment

Summer at The Disneyland Resort means longer parks hours, and that means more fun at night! At Disney California Adventure park, you can always check out the classic World of Color, which usually shows twice nightly in the summer. Getting a Fastpass or a World of Color dining reservation are the two best ways to see this show! Now over at Disneyland Park are 2 special limited time nighttime shows. Back at the castle is ‘Remember…Dreams Come True’ fireworks spectacular! Narrated by Julie Andrews, this show takes you through Disneyland attractions and shows of past and present. Not too be missed! If you loved Wishes at Magic Kingdom Park, you must SEE THIS SHOW. Same theme song, different story. On Main Street, nostalgia hits you right in the heart as the beloved Main Street Electrical Parade lights up the night. It is really special to see this parade back at home, so catch it before it “glows” away on August 20th. Starting July 17th, Fantasmic! makes its long awaited return to Disneyland with new sequences, pyrotechnics, special effects, and more Mickey! Just like World of Color, the best way to see this show is with either a Fastpass or dining reservation.
